7mm trimmer is poorly designed

The 7 piece kit works well in all intended occasions EXCEPT the most common size, the 7mm. The trimmer catches the brass barrel between the cutter and the cutter's shaft. In most cases this destroys the pen blank before it ever reaches the lathe. The technical problem is that the 7mm barrel trimmer shaft is very close to 7mm throughout its length and allows the brass tube to get between the cutter head and the cutter shaft. Previous 7mm barrel trimmers of Mar 2002 (PKTRIM for $16.95) actually had a 0.028 overlap that precluded the problem. Additionally, the barrel trimmers had two opposing set screws where the cutter head in the 7-piece kit has but one set screw. This pulls the cutter head to one side widening the gap on the side with the set screw allowing the 0.011" brass wall thickness to get entrapped rather than trimmed. I believe the 7mm barrel trimmer in the 7-piece Kit should be improved because it is worthless as a trimmer. I teach pen turning classes to seniors and this problem is costing you sales ... especially on the "Slim Line" and other 7mm pens.

Can't be without it

If your a pen turner and you turn more than just 7mm pens, you have to get this set. This is something every pen turner should NOT be without!!

Stays sharp longer

Mill slides over 7mm tube causing tube not to be trimmed flush if your not careful, larger tubes work well and the mill stays sharper longer than mills I have used from other sourcess.

Universal barrel trimmer

I've used this trimmer several times and it is well worth having. It makes the ends of the blanks straight and flush and cleans the glue out of the inside of the barrel. It works great and the price is reasonable as well. The fact that all the different sizes are together in one package makes it very handy.

If your going to make pens ,you need to order this set...it has all the sizes you will need.

Good on Wood and Acrylic alike

I've used the barrel trimmer for each of the 9 pens I've made so far and it has worked perfectly for each of them. The cutter is quite sharp as seen from the shavings of wood and the 1 acrylic blank that I've done so far. I've used 3 of the shafts so far and all are perfectly straight and they clear the glue from inside the tube nicely. I anticipate using this set for every pen I make.

7 piece universal barrel trimmer work great

I have had issues with getting parts to meet squarely until I purchased this kit. I now get a nice clean and tight finish to my pens.
