Salt Shaker and Peppermill Combo Kit in Antique Brass

I'm a relatively new turner. I bought 9 of these and have completed 3 so far. The quality of the kit is good and assembly is easy after you have turned and finished the two wood parts. Drilling the holes through the long blank (4") is not difficult by itself, but getting a larger 1-1/2" hole concentric with the through hole is challenging and I got it off a bit on the last one essentially ruining the finished product (I'm a perfectionist lol). Also, it's a little silly that the kit requires a 1-1/16" forstner bit. I had to order one to do this project. No big deal, but why not just make the parts to work with a 1" bit which everyone has?? Like someone else said, adjustability in length would make this a little more versatile and I would prefer a longer grinder. The parts work well though and I'm happy with the kits. I would buy them again. I think next time I'm going to turn the blanks round first, then use the lathe to drill the holes with the blanks chucked up in the 4-jaw. I think I'll get better alignment that way. I built a nice right angle jig for my drill press and still messed it up. I got better results the first two I made from drilling from both sides of the long piece and meeting in the middle. The last one I did I used a bit extender. The bit must've walked some as it was off an 1/8" at the bottom. Ugh. Oh well... 6 more to practice with. I made the one pictured here from canary wood. This wood turns like a dream. I recommend.
