EZ-Assemble Antique Style Salt and Pepper Mill Mechanism in Antique Copper
Description
The latest breakthrough in mill kit design is our new EZ capsule system - which houses all the grinder components in an innovative ceramic grinder capsule; so, you can save time and avoid the hassle of installing the grinder components into the kit yourself. Exclusively available in our new EZ-Assemble Salt & Peppermill kits. Simply glue the capsule into a 1-1/2in. hole drilled through your blank. The system eliminates the need to drill three concentric holes and eliminates the need to drill and screw in the tiny holes normally used to mount the grinder base. Plus, the inside of the mill and the ceramic grinder are both noncorrosive, so you can safely grind salt or pepper. Includes an infinitely adjustable mechanism and easy to make with only 2 drill bits needed (1in and1-1/2in). through hole. Same design as our existing Antique Style Peppermill Mechanism (Item #PKGRIND4) but with the new EZ capsule system. Mount it onto a box or onto a turning. Kit requires a hole about 1in. diameter to pass the pepper. Cast metal working parts and 2in. dia x 5in. high. T

Review by Tim M. on 28 May 2024 review stating These kits are a fun,
These kits are a fun, easy project and make great gifts. They are also a very popular item at craft shows. The only thing I would change is the orientation of the screw mounting holes. You can’t get a straight shot on them during assembly.

Finally a solution for salt!!!
Review by Alan H. on 20 Sep 2023 review stating Finally a solution for salt!!!
I have made and sold over 1000 of the "old" Antique style pepper mills. My customers continually asked for a salt mill too.
I was not a fan of the assembly instructions, because I may want to vary the height of the wooden body a bit, so gluing to a jig height doesn't work. In fact if your length dimensions are not exactly precise, and you use the glue jig as described, the adjustment for the grind coarseness may become limited. Instead, I attach the top hardware first and then apply the epoxy as described, but then I slide the shaft up through the bottom hole, attach the lower gear on the way through, then screw on the adjustment disc leaving some threads on both sides of the disc to allow for the very small adjustment that is available in the grinding mechanism below. Once the glue cures, I add the handle gear and the top shaft knob, and adjust the grind mechanism to turn free. I read on some of the other reviews how the grind couldn't be adjusted after assembly, or the crank turned very hard. It is my belief that the length dimension was not precise and after assembly, there was no adjustment left. Others noted that they had issues with the top knob coming loose could also be the same cause not leaving enough threads to engage the spring inside the knob and enough threads to be secure. Just a guess on my part.
