Beautiful pen but not the quality

It turns easy and very beautiful when finished. But after some use the threads in the cap unravel making the cap useless.

Nouveau Sceptre

The Sceptre is an awesome pen kit. I'm thankful to David Broadwell for all his hard work and his talent in creating this wonderful pen kit. I teamed this kit up with a purple cactus blank from Curtis Seebeck for an awesome looking pen that has drawn praise from pen turners near and far. Broadwell Nouveau Sceptre

This is an excellent pen kit. I made the pen with an ebony blank. You do have to be careful not to turn the cap to far or the clip will not hit it.

Nice pen but could be better

I have turned several of the Nouveau Septre pens - Ball Point, Fountain, and this Rollerball. These all make exquisite pens. I have used dyed Box Elder Burl, Tru-Stone and Stars and Stripes for these pens. The reason for 3 Stars is the metal on metal threads. I use the Rollerball as my daily pen. Both the Nib and end cap constantly loosen while carrying in my pants pocket (shirts are pocketless). Twice now the nib has become disconnected with the body of the pen becoming stuck in the cap. I need to use the smallest rod from the disassembly tool kit to remove the nib from the cap. The only solution was to glue the nib to the body.

Incredible Pen

I purchased one of these and it sat in my shop for 3 months until I got up the "courage" to turn it. I wish I hadn't waited because during it was a snap and it is very easy to assemble. I used the white marble Tru-stone pictured online and in the catalog and with the one-step plastic polish the results were phenomenal! I'll definitely order more of these and am taking this one to a craft show to gauge the response.

Elegant and Easy

I just finished two of these kits, one roller ball and one fountain pen kit which I plan to give as Holiday gifts. I turned the bodies with tru-stone. First of all, the pen kits appear to be top notch. Only time will really tell how durable the finish is. The detail of the pen is nice. This is a fairly large pen. It may not be right for everyone, but I like it. The setup was easy. I only have two minor complaints. First, the 10.5 mm bit which came with my kit was slightly out of round which created a slightly oval hole. Very slight and did not affect the final product. I used 2 part epoxy to glue up the blanks. It works well as gap filler. The tru-stone was easy to turn with a sharp gouge and skew. I sanded and polished with Penn States plastic finish abrasive kit. Follow the directions for excellent results. Second, and more problematic, is the large cap bushing. the bushing I received measures about 0.648 but the cap is about 0.675. I turned the trustone to 0.675 and it looks great. The other bushing sizes were OK. In short, these appear to be very fine kits perfect to give as special gifts. The finished pens looks spectacular in tru-stone and I am sure they would also look great using any high end blank.

An exciting pen to make and show

This is a high end pen that is not difficult to make but shows with very big dividends. This is a pen that draws the eye to most any display. It made me quickly look like a pro.

This pen is a great buy! The looks and feel of it are the best of any pen I have ever made. A must buy for any pen enthusiast!
