Description
Here's an easy to make great looking starts and stripe pens. The embedded straight red & white stripes radiate from the center of the blank so the pattern of your finished pen will be in proportion regardless of the pen diameter. Easy to turn with traditional tools and easy to finish with tradiational acrylic abrasives and finishes. Pair with a Stars on Blue pen blank for the utlimate patriotic themed pen. Please note we do not recommend turning below 3/8in. (.375) or drilling with jobber bits.

American flag pen

I like being able to make the American flag out of this blank but it is a brittle material and turning it the chisel leaves pits in the blank all over that were a pain to sand out. It did matter what style chisel I used to tune the blank with. Also the blank had pin hole in it that I had to fill with ca glue. There were also white dots that showed up in the red stripes somehow from when the blank was poured. These make a really cool pen but take a lot of work to get it there

Beautiful but fragile

I ordered this for a pen not knowing exactly which one. I just knew I wanted a two tube pen so I could use an American flag theme. This material comes with a warning about drilling and carbide tools. It is indeed brittle. My first attempt exploded while I was drilling. I rechecked my measurements and drilled a second blank which worked great. Same thing happened to the star blank. The stripe blank was a little temperamental, but not too difficult. It polished up nicely. I decided to go with the Faith Hope and Love pen. I think it turned out great. I was able to cut and glue the busted pieces onto an extra 8mm tube to make a pipe.

Straight line red and white blank, not good.

Had two 5" blanks have yet to complete a good turning, it comes apart on the lines of the colors. I read where they have been improved, but that was 2019. Keep trying to call but I keep being told I need to talk to a "pen tech" who are not answering.
