This Acrylester is very brittle and breaks with ease. Its like turing a piece of plate glass.
When drilling the barrel hole go slow and clear chips out often. I went too fast and cracked the first blank. Fortunately they are not very expensive and can be replaced easily. When turning at first I thought that I would never get a smooth surface. Then I sharpened my gouge and what a difference. So, make sure your tools are sharp and be patient. They sand well although you'll have to go up to 600 grit or higher. I would also paint the brass blank white to ensure that you don't get dark shadows in the pen. I believe everything I mentions haas appeared in other reviews and I only wish I read them and took their advice instead of going through three attempts until I got a nice pen.
This is the one I get more feedback on of all the pens I have made in last month or so. It has a beautiful finish that is second to none. I sell everyone I can make.
The Acrylester Pink Sky made an absolutely beatuiful pen. After turning we engraved it with her name. Very pretty for a little girl.
My Grandaughter loves pink and she got what she wanted. You have to turn slow or you will do and I did, Blow it up.. Final finish was great,I sand to 1200 grit and use Polishing Compound and Car Wax for final finish. Look great.
