Definitely buying the carbide cutter next time, but that's only because I really hate sharpening stuff. This tool worked fine out of the box and makes a big difference in the consistency of the fit I'm able to achieve.

I have bought many tools from PSI and and have liked every one until this one. Works ok first blank or 2 but gets dull faster than any tool I have ever used for wood. The metal is just too soft. Every tool with an edge will need to be sharpened but this tool will not hold any edge. Great tool for 1 set of blanks, then need to resharpen Even sharpe can not trim 2 purple heart blanks. If not sharp can tear up wood and brass. Look for a better trimmer. Maybe I just got a bad one but I despise this tool.

Does the job but you need to really pay attention, it has some tiny clearance between the rod and the cutter, tube can actualy fit there resulting in cutting more wood than you need.

I kinda wished I had gotten the carbide one, but realizing this is steel, I can't complain a bit (and I can resharpen them myself...unlike the carbide). I am using it more than I thought I would though.

This is really a must-have item if you are making any turning project kits that require a 7mm brass tube. What the barrel trimmer does is "square up" the ends of your wood blank so that the brass tube and wood are even. This enables your project pieces to fit properly. Works fantastic!

For a steel barrel trimmer it worked well. It needed to be touched up to avoid chatter. The shaft ran true. After honing it was very adequate.

Such a simple tool but crucial to making crisp aligning pens. So far so good. Keeps a nice clean edge on the wood and barrel so I get nice lines during assembly of the pen. Don't let it fool yah it's sharp....

Cuts easily and replaces the one I have used for 2 years. I had to sharpen my old one weekly normally, and will need to touch this one up also on a normal basis. I use my trimmer on plastics, antler and wood.
