A Disappointing FinishThe kit went together OK and functions satisfactorily. Two CONS though: the mechanism is too loose inside the barrel; and, the pencil looks unfinished because you can see the top end of the brass tube inside the ornamental hexagonal "nut". The nut should be redesigned so that the top brass tube end is covered. The pencil would then look finished. It would also be better if the nut were a tight press fit on the tenon so that you don't have to glue the nut to the brass tube.

BEWARE OF INSTRUCTION DIAGRAMS !!Before you read on, I admit I should have been more careful reading the instructions ..... but why provide less than clear directions!? Beware careful in the placement of the tenon in regards to the threaded tube (by the way, they don't sell extra tubes - mess up and you have to buy another set). Diagram A is fine. If you are trying to match the wood grain on your drilled out blanks, be sure to insert the lower brass tube so that the inside thread corresponds to where you want the tip of your pencil to be. The real potential problem is Diagram B. It is technically correct, but has two issues that need to be corrected (I can't be the only one who has been tricked up). #! - For some unknown reason, Diagram B has been REVERSED from Diagram A !! The "Lower Threaded Tube" is on the right side of Diagram A, but on the left of Diagram B? When comparing both diagrams, it appears that the "inside thread" in Diagram A lines up with "tenon" cut on Diagram B. #2 -- In Diagram B there is nothing showing of the location of the "inside thread". Just labeling that would have gone a long way to eliminate the confusion of the reversed Diagram B. BTW if you order the pencil set online, they list them as being on sale for 0% off !!?

workshop pencilThis is a must have for any woodworker or craftsman.

Nice shop pencilNifty little kit, great components. Only complaint and reason I'm giving 4 stars is the end cap assembly wiggles around a little too much. But I use my pencil in my shop and I'm not selling them so I dunno if it would be a show stopper when it came to sell them.

Good productQuality kit, would like a few more options on hardware.

Good ProductNice looking product, Recommend having a clip available for it though.

AvcabreraThe length of the pencil was too short for my hands. The lack of a clip is a problem. The deluxe pen set offers a clip, but is shorter still. I was very disapointed and would not reccommend I now have bushings and a drill bit collecting dust

work shop and Sketch Pencil KitEasy to make and works and feels great!

Unusual projectAt first this seemed like overkill just for a shop pencil. The finished pencil is very nice and also very useful. I never can find a pencil when I need it but when the pencil is this nice I tend to keep track of where I left it. I keep two in my shop and have given many as gifts.

Penn State serviceThe mini sketching pencil is the greatest. I liked it so much I just ordered 4 more. All the products that I have gotten from Penn State have been great. I really like the super fast service. Thank You Penn State
