Perfect for the beginning pen turnerWhen I saw this kit it looked rather small and lightweight. I was totally off. This is a hefty pen. I guess since it comes with a chrome cap that is already finished, made me think it was lightweight. The barrel is the only part you turn. All you need is 1 blank that is 3/4" x 3/4" x 2 1/2" (Actual 10mm tube length is 2 3/8".) The cap is available in 2 styles, brushed chrome or etched chrome. The brushed chrome cap has a matte finish with a shiny chrome clip. It contrasts with the shiny chrome ends of the barrel. The etched chrome cap is shiny and matches the shiny chrome ends of the barrel. The cap screws onto the section to close. It slips on the back of the barrel to post. My finished pen without the cap weighed in at 1.1 ounces. A breakdown in ounces of each piece: • End cap .4 • Coupler .3 • Cap .4 • Finished barrel .4 As you can see, most of the weight is from the coupler and end cap. When assembling pay close attention to which part you are pressing into the barrel. The end cap and coupler are almost identical at first glance. Of course this only matters if you wanted a certain end of the barrel to be the writing end. Since this is a one piece turning you won't be lining up patterns between the cap and barrel. In conclusion, this pen is perfect for the first time pen turner. The "Presimo" will give you a very nice, high quality finished product as you build up your pen turning skills.
