About this easier to make Designer Pen with no tenon
This newly re-configured series has the same great look of our original Designer, but you now don't need a tenon to make this pen. The new configuration features a new band which replaces the tedious process of cutting a tenon to mount it on the center band.

Have BUILT HALF A DOZEN of these. There are errors in sizing the brass tube. Wooden upper pen halves split when pressing the top In. This is in spite of my first polishing the inside of the tube to make sure there is no cement or burrs to interfere with the smooth placement of the top cap.I have not found this problem with other PENN kits.It would be nice if they would put the exact diameter of the brass tubes on the assembly sheet like the bushing sizes. I always check the tubes with a micrometer and not all 8mm's tubes are identical even from the same manufacturer.

First of all, I couldn't get the pen mechanism to retract fully into the pen. Second, I don't see much difference in this pen and the typical 24kt NT pen. It's not worth the added cost of the kit and new bushings.

We turn a fair number of pens and this is the first one we have turned from PSI. We used the spalted gold Aquapearl blanks and despite the issues with it, the pen turned out beautifully!
