Good mandrel, Poor drill.Great mandrel. But toss the drill thats included (And not mentioned) out. It drilled an oversized tapered hole (About 7.2mm+) when using it on the tailstock of my lathe.. 118 degree point drills work MUCH better in a lathe.

Works great in a drill press too!I have always wanted to make my own pens, but I don't have a lathe. While browsing thru one of the many pen making forums online, I read that you could make pens using a drill press and a universal pen mandrel. I found out that PSI had one of these universal pen mandrels that was designed to work in the drill chuck on a lathe, and that several people had used one in their drill press with great results. So, I figured I would give this one a try. And it does work! I have a small 8 inch table top drill press, and this mandrel fit! I purchased a pen kit, nice pen blank, and some pen bushings along with the mandrel, and I made my first pen the day after I received my order! Using a small round bearing spindle from a drill press drum sanding kit I had in the threaded end of this pen mandrel, I was able to keep the mandrel extra steady while making the pen. I am very pleased with this univeral pen mandrel. It is easy to use, very well made, and got me into the hobby of pen making without having to purchase a lathe! And with the seven spacers provided with the mandrel, I can now make pens that require two blanks as well as single blank pens! Thank you PSI for offering such diverse products and for helping me get into a fascinating and enjoyable new hobby!

MandrelStays true longer than the WoodCraft mandrel.
