Great Product

Made my first pen and it came out great, ease of use with down to earth directions and fits great on my 1980 Mark V.

Just off

Turned several pens with this adapter with a slight off center outcome. Change this and that, still the same. Took a real close look to day and noticed the adapter was slightly large and the set screw was pushing it off center. I am know using the mandrel shaft only with the drill chuck. Works great this way. Noting off center now.

Using the Universal Lathe Pen Mandrel for SS

I have been using it now for about a week and so far it has performed as stated in the catalog. I'm happy with it to this point.

This item performed excellently. It was secure on the Shopsmith and lined up with the live center. My first pen was perfect. No problems at all. I can't wait to turn the next pen. For a Shopsmith owner/penturner it is a "must have" item.

The 7mm mandrel fit my Shopsmith very well. The price was right. It helped with the pen making task. I would recommed the mandrel to anyone.

5/8 pen mandrel

I own an older (1929) lathe, and this was the only way to adapt the shaft for this task. Works Great!

So far the mandrel has performed satisfactorily. My only concern is the quality of the materials used in producing the mandrel. I have taken care not to over tighten the knurled nut but the threads appear to be slightly mismatched and do not feel secure.

Shopsmith 5/8th inch Mandrel Review

The kit comes protected in a plastic tube. The kit includes mandrel, a Allen wrench, several 7 millimeter spacers, 7 millimeter drill bit, and directions. This is a great piece of equipment. It fits perfectly on the Shopsmith with a snug secure fit. When in use there is no vibration. When shaping wood there is a fair amount of stress on the rotating thin steel spindle but I have never had one bend or become warped. The set screw is of course the Shopsmith standard size so you still only have one size set screw that works on the Shopsmith. In case you misplaced your Shopsmith Allen wrench you can use the wrench included in the kit. At times I misplace or drop spacers. The extra spacers in the kit most certainly come in handy. I never needed to order more spacers or had track down a source of spacers on the Internet. So the spacers in the kit are a real time saver.
