Great Start

Was very easy to set up, started turning the same day. Great quality, easy to use! Only issue was after a while the knurled nut did not hold the blanks as solidly, but replaced the nut and had no further issues. Would definately reccomend this product!

The mandrel that will screw onto the head stock is easier to use and stays balanced better when tightened down with the tail stock.

Pen Madrel for Lathe

I really like the convenience of being able to turn both halves of a pen at the same time however, there seems to be quite a bit of flex in this mandrel due to the length. I wonder if a hardened version might be more stiff and work better. Once a turning becomes slightly out of round (due to the flex)it is extremly difficult to true it up. I'm thinking of trying a steady rest...

This a must for turning these pens and other projects. It is multi-usable. I can use it on my wood lathe or take off the head and use it on my metal lathe. I really had fun building these pens and other items. And they make great gifts. I want to thank you for pricing these items low enough that I could try them. The mandrel is long enough that everything fit perfectly. And you have made it so that all the different sizes will fit the one mandrel.

7mm mandrel

Mandrel works a lot better than the homemade one I had been using and it fits my old Craftsman lathe.

Sears Pen Manrel set

My 17 year old son has gotten into woodworking and I ordered the Sears 3/4 by 16 tpi pen mandrel so that we could turn some pens. The mandrel fit on the sears lathe very snugly and we have turned over a dozen pens with it. I am very satisfied with the quality and strength of the mandrel and with the pen kits that we ordered from PSI. I recommend PSI to anyone interested in this hobby of pen turning. I am particularly fond now of looking for my own wood to dry and turn.
