Terrible grind

OK, why is my title negative when my rating is five stars? I just bought two of these scrapers with the intent of regrinding them to my taste. I was pleasantly surprised by the 5/8" thickness that wasn't advertised. Too often we spend too much money for tools that are "ready from the box", or are shaped for a particular problem. Sorby is the prime example, overpriced because of their specialized "grinds". I'll be buying more of these "square scrapers" - but they won't remain square scrapers. I'll grind them to the shapes I want. I'm tired of spending big bucks for someone else's idea of a good shape - this is sound steel and a good thickness, I'll do my own shaping. My only complaint is that it only comes in 3/4" - but it seems PSI has chosen to do their own grind on the larger ones. This tool has about a 84 dg. grind, not to my taste. I like a "double chin", a bevel of about 70 dgs. which it then reground to about 80 at the cutting edge. Others have different preferences. By making a simple straight across grind on this tool PSI has given me one I can shape to my taste - without wasting the money for someone else's fancy grind. This tool is raw material, and excellent raw material. You put your own signature on it. When I need a new shape I'll buy a couple more of these and make the shape. Best, Jon

HSS Square End Scraper

This scraper is easy to use and puts a square edge and fine finish on the bowls that I am returning after the drying period.

BB lathe tool

I have a set of Benjamins's Best lathe tools. All, including this square end work quite well. Never experienced a problem with this product. Benjamin's Best provides a good product at a reasonable price. Future orders of BB in the works.

Though this scraper needs sharpening and burnishing before use, it is a good product for the price.

I'm happy with the square end scraper. It needed sharpening for my personal preference, then afterwards takes sweet, ultra-thin shavings. Would have gone 5 stars but for a nick in the handle made it look like a 'second'

Very Good

This is a fine tool that does me very well. It is a great price. I know that some may be concerned that it costs too little, but it's simply a fine tool at a great price.
