mini Benjamin's Lathe chisel setI purchased this set for small items, detailed turning(pen kits, finials, mini mushroom bird houses, desk pen funnel holders, etc.). This set fits the bill at a very reasonable price. Just the parting tool alone is worth the price to me. The handle finishes are nice, the tool balance and length is very good for my small project needs on the mini-lathe. The three "F's" (fit, function and finish are satisfied by this set. Thanks PSI for another great value.

mini chiselsThey do not work very well in hard wood

Set of 5 Mini Benjamin's Best HSS Lathe Chisel SetToo small to be of much use for anything. Dull.

Good set , reasonable pricei needed a small set of tools for xmas ornaments and decided on Penn state. Overall it's a good set, but the small gouge just bent over when I tried to use it! Aside from that I am happy with this set

Mini Benjamin's Best HSS chisel setGuess it is about worth what I paid for it, but was disappointed in the quality of the product. The first thing I have bought from Penn State Industries, that I have not been satisfied with.

Great ProductThis is my 3rd set I own a small woodturning business and purchase most of the kits and tools from Penn State. This is just another great product for the money. Thank you PSI

Chisel SetThe gouges aren't as useful but the scraper, skew and parting tool work great.

Good chiselsThese chisels are simply a great value and a fine set of chisels to start your woodturning hobby with. The handles fit snugly and have no wobble, and the brass ferrule on each is snug as well. The one reason I gave this set a 4 start rating instead of five was the spindle gouge. It is a little too small unless you are working on toothpicks, mine bent while I was working with it on a recess about an inch from the rest, a problem I attribute to my own skill level as well as the hardness of the material (Seasoned Poplar). I straightened it and haven’t used it very much since then. The other tools are good for what they do, and with some practice you can do amazing work with them. Beads, alcoves, raised sections, parting; all of them except the spindle gouge impressed me. The other minor complaint was that the handles were sticky to the touch. Not sticky like glue, but a little tacky. It wore off in about an hour from all the handles. If you lay the Spindle gouge off to the side and consider only the remaining four, you won’t find any better quality for 7.50 each ($30 / 4 = $7.50 apiece) at least not in tools that you will get a long life out of. The one thing to always keep in your mind is that they are MINI, not maxi. I wouldn’t force these tools into a piece because they aren’t built as heavy as my bowl gouge or other full sized tools. If you are willing to take your time and let the tool do its job, you can get an excellent finish with these without any trouble at all.
