Morse Taper Maxi-MandrelThis is a great mandrel. Easy to use with slimline pens and the adjustment keeps everything tight and small without a lot of spacers. Comes with 5 spacers so if you are like me and lose one to your shop vac there is a spare. It also came with a long 7mm drill bit that was a nice surprise. I should have bought the mandrel saver as well because if the tailstock is not 100% in line it makes a high pitch screeching until adjusted. Not a big deal but if you don’t know what the sound is you think you lathe just broke. Overall I recommend it.

Too many variablesI bought this mandrel with a mandrel saver. The mandrel saver was great but the adjustable mandrel seemed to run a little off. I used the Sharpe test I learned on the internet to check if it was running true. Pennstate was great and they sent me a new one. But the new one was also not true. I think its because of the adjustable feature, which has a tiny, tiny bit of play but enough to foul up the alignment. It seams there's too many moving parts for this one to be perfect. I tried tightening the adjustment nut while in the saver to keep it aligned but couldn't get it to set up right. When I put my cheap, basic mandrel in the head stock and saver, it ran right as rain. If you're going to go with the saver, which makes your mandrel adjustable anyway, I would not go with the adjustable mandrel. Just go with a regular mandrel. I hate to be so hard on it with two stars but if it's not running true, you'll have a bad time of it, especially if you're a beginner. If I'm making a point that everyone already knows, I'm sorry, I'm a rookie and just thought I'd add my experience to the mix.

Great Little MandrelThis new mandrel does just what it's meant to. When I bring up the tailstock to hold the pen blanks, there is no chance of inadvertently bending the mandrel with too much pressure.

Maxi-mandrelGreat tool, only way it could be better is if it had 1"x8 tpi threads to attach directly to the headstock. It makes it easy to turn different length pen blanks. I would recommend this to a friend.

Better quality than I expectedWhen you buy online, the truth is you don't know what you getting until after you paid for it and has been shipped. I see it as a risk, but in this I case was surprised. It more than met my expectations and maybe I shouldn't say this but there was a nice little surpise in it. I bought a bunch of pen kits and some wood, but forgot the 7mm drill bit. PSI didn't and I don't think it was part of the mandrel. This is my first oder with PSI but I know it won't be my last. They do seem to care.

Simply worksMandrel simply works, which is as much as one can expect from Mandrel. Lock is very good.

Mandrel ReviewI was happy to receive the mandrel. It fits right into the headstock w/ no trouble. Easy to use and built well. It's adjustable and the brass thumbscrew allows you to snug the blanks and bushings w/out risk of damaging the threads. Very happy w/ it.

Really handyThis mandrel is great for single tube pens, and when I CA glued a tube to it by mistake, I just took out the rod and put in a new one and all was well.

Great mandrel!Just used the Maxi-mandrel for the first time. It's everything it is claimed to be.
