      Barry selected beautifully curly grained Popular for this interesting and colorful blank. Poplar, a favored domestic wood used for furniture and cabinets, will make for a stunning finished pen. Stabilized for maximum hardness and shine when turned and finished.

      Stabilized wood has been processed with a resin material.This process can be useful to strengthen punky areas, and it will limit expansion and shrinkage due to changes in humidity and help it resist rot. The stabilizing process does not fill voids.

      Stabilized blanks can be worked on a lathe, using standard woodworking techniques and tooling with light touches.
