So far all seems to be fine. I have started up operations again making French Rolling Pins and pens. Working towards building my inventory of Mills, Christmas Tree Ornaments and whatever other turned items for the Fall Christmas 2 day Craft Show I can come up with. I have not used the Lathe to its full capacity yet but plan BIG things as time moves forward. Expecting GREAT reliability from the ‘Commander’

Unpacking the three boxes produced some confusion. The manual did not always match the reality. Biggest problem was caused by an "upgrade" according to Customer Service. Seems they "upgraded" the Side Protection Guard so that it is difficult to remove. And you must remove it in order to change the belt pulley from one speed zone to another. So the 12 inch VS lathe is no longer easy to change the belt positions as advertised. Other than that, it is as expected. Except the footprint including the extension is not 52" as specified. I made a stand while waiting for delivery. OOPS. Had to add a few more inches. See the picture.

I started out with and old Craftsman lathe that I had to fix before it would run. I have had the Turncrafter Commander 12 in for over five years now and have not had a single problem with it. I have added a lot of accessories for it and there is just about nothing I can't do in turning that other lathe can do. I ordered a new drive belt thinking it would wear out soon. Not yet! still on the original belt. I have turned logs so rough that the lathe and the bench it's on would jump around until I got it trued up. See a vase I turned. One of many, Great Fun.
