The Utility grip chuck fits and turns true on my shopsmith. The adapter fits the spindle on the shopsmith so well that it's a little hard to pull off. But that isn't a problem.

The spindle adapter is almost as good as the customer service.

Here's a product that is built with a tolerance capable of producing the little pop when you remove it. The only way you can get the pop is to have extremely close tolerances and this little adapter redefines close tolerance. If you have a ShopSmith, then you need one of these. Great Ideas (or device) – It allows you to use all the standard 1X8 lathe accessories, (faceplates , chucks, etc) on your Shopsmith – you no longer need to buy the special (and more costly) items just for the Shopsmith. Also if you have two lathes (as I do) you can share the items between them, no longer need to have two of each of the accessories. I love it; saved me tons of money.

Shopsmith Spindle adapter top notch

This is a very solid and well made adapter. I bought this and a 1X8 pen mandrel that I can now move between my shopsmith and my turncrafter pro. This also allows me to share my chuck between the two lathes. A+++ overall.
