I got this set as a novice turner primarily turning bowls. I had trouble mastering the bowl gouge and eventually bought a used Sorby from eBay. What a world of difference - you would think all M2 High Speed Steel is the same but the Sorby takes a much better edge and holds it a lot longer. Then I made a scraper from a metal lathe tool blank - again M2 HSS alloy and also found it needs much less sharpening and the long handle I made provides more control. So this set is a good value - lots of chisels for the price - but in hindsight I would have been better off buying fewer, better, tools.

I am fairly new to turning but have used chisels for a long time. You can get a good set of chisels for what one specialty one cost. The only minor complaint is some could use longer handles, but since you have a lathe you can do that on your own if you choose. Stays sharp for a lot of use. HSS is nice.I did my homework and glad I did.

The tools hold an edge well and the handles are good quality. I like this set because I'm not afraid I will mess them up while I hone my sharpening skills because the entire set costs about the same as one Sorby tool. Overall, an excellent value for a starter set.

I am just learning to turn. So I wanted something that was reasonably priced. I didn't want to spend $50 or more for higher end tools. The benjamins best HSS lathe chisel set was a great price. It fit the bill for me. They do need to be sharpend before they cut very well. I have not had any problems with them as yet. I have only used them for a short time. They work great I'm glad I bought them.

This is my first set of lathe chisels. They are great for what I need. They do need to be sharpened before use.

This is our first of turning tools. They seem well made. However they did not arrive sharpened. Not a big deal as we were prepared for that....

I understand keeping costs down on sets like these, but the handles could have been longer on a couple of the chisels. I will have to fix that problem though. they seem to keep a good edge and so far I am very happy with them. longer handles and I would have given them a 5
