About our Rattlesnake blanks There is a serious natural overpopulation of Rattlesnakes - and are by no means a protected species. The skins used for our blanks and other uses are from snakes harvested from the wild for population control. They are not raised and harvested for their skins. These snakes live in the wild and multiply rapidly and have very few natural enemies. In the areas that they thrive - they pose a serious health risk to people, wild animals and farm animals. When their population is controlled, they are never completely killed off and the harvested snakes are milked and the venom is used to make antivenin, then every part of the snake is used. The meat is sold to restaurants, the rattles and ribs are used for jewelry and the skins are used for various commercial purposes - including (and by no means limited) to our pen blanks.
