Excellent lathe for the novice or pro

This is the 2nd Jet Mini I've purchased. I purchased this lathe to hold my Beall Buffing wheels. I purchased the first as a replacement for a Ryobi Mini Lathe (not one of my better investments). The first lathe was basically ready to use right out of the box. It took me about 30 minutes to put the stand together and mount the lathe, attach the belt and it was ready to turn. The 2nd lathe I purchased used from a local woodworking store where it was being used for turning demos. It came with the bed extension and stand with extension. This unit has 3 speeds via 2 step pulleys. The motor is rated 1/2 HP, more than adequate for this size lathe. It takes less than 1 minute to change speeds. To change speed, there is a lever that loosens the motor, lift the motor (not heavy) and lock in place. Move the belt, unlock the motor and lower until the belt suspends the weight of the motor and relock the motor. Ready to turn on. The variable feature allows for infinite speeds within the range of the pulley. It comes with an 8" straight tool rest, #2 Morse Taper (MT) Spur for the headstock and a #2 MT live center for the tailstock. The spindle is 1" x 8 tpi, which is the standard for lathes. Aftermarket accessories are readily available (Jet does not make accessories other than a bed extension). This is very easy to use. Pick the speed range for what's being turned, mount the blank, turn it on and adjust the speed. I have used this to turn pens and have attempted a bowl or two. This unit is ok for bowls less than 6" in diameter. The Banjo gets in the way for anything larger. One of the problems I have with this lathe is re-installing the tailstock, which needs to be removed for turning bowls (it's in the way for the hollowing step). The problem is getting the locking block started it the ways. Also, the tailstock has problems sliding onto the extension.
I would not hesitate to recommend this lathe.
