First and foremost let me stress that I am not an experienced turner and looking at the blank when you receive it can be disheartening. I bought both the smaller and the larger size of this product and turned a Potpourri box and a bowl out of them. Very pleased with the outcome and most definitely I will buy the blanks again. Tools need to be kept sharp and speed correct and you should be fine. They are not cheap but a lot cheaper than trying to make the blank yourself ļ

This item should be named "Scary-Blank". I'm an experienced turner and this blank had me terrified the whole 4 hours it took to turn. Lots of end grain scraps hastily glued together poorly. I used a 1/2" round nose scraper most of the time cause my gouges just kept on catching. Yanked it clear out of the dovetail, TWICE! When the turning was done the sanding was murderous. I use the spinning 2" discs in my dril and it left the back edges of all the little pieces ragged. Of course the Turncrafter lathe has no reverse function so I have to deal with it. I used a HUT wax for the finish and 2 days later there were gaps all over the place on the thing. All in all, this was the most expensive piece of wood for its size I had ever turned and took the longest amount of time and ended up with the poorest result. I won't make this mistake again.
