Unique BlankI have made approximately a dozen of pens with these blanks and I love the way they look. I turned 4 last night and paid special attention to the instructions. I did put CA on the ends of each blank before I drilled. This enable me to SLOWLY drill, removing the shavings, and the blank did not break away at the bottom. I then turned very carefully, not exerting too much pressure on the tool. I used the chisle to round the blank and then went straight to my special rounded skew. I turned off the lathe to check the coffee beans, and where a little had chipped out, I filled with CA. I sanded with 100 grit then went to my dry plastic sanding pads. I used the HUT high gloss and a paper towel for the final coat. The pens are not high gloss but the HUT doesn't take away from the wonderful coffee smell. I always use the Gatsby kit which looks really good with the coffee and cream AND I can make two pens from one blank. That really helps when these blanks are fairly expensive. I highly recommend this pen for experienced turners who use a LIGHT touch. Do you hear me ladies?

Java JoyMade great gifts for my coffee drinking friends. I love the aroma. Work slowly, slowly. Beans break if tool gets dull or you work too fast. I will use this to make more pens to show off at my favorite coffee shop.

poor qualityI ordered 2 blanks. They had voids in them that needed filling. The coffee bled into the blank and caused it to look dirty. you could see coffee beans under the surface which also made them look dirty. The coffee beans are not stabilized so they break easily and need repair. The CA glue used to repair the beans and fill voids with coffee grinds caused an uneven finish so I had to CA finish the whole thing. It took 2 blanks to get one pen and I discarded it when finished.

Hard and take too much time.I produce a lot of pens with a lot of different kind of materials. I thought would try this blank. Tried I did, several blanks later I gave up. I use sharp tools and CA glue still (crap). I will never buy this again.

Love This MaterialI have made, and sold, 3 coffee scoops (PKCSCOOP)utilizing this material. I didn't have much problem with the material and yes some voids were created but it is something I expected. Just a bit of CA and the gaps were filled. I turned with sharp tools, a bit slower turning speed, and a very light touch. The results were amazing.

Soft MaterialMy customer was happy with the pen but it was a pain to turn. The beans are soft and would chip out of the resin. This blank required frequent applications of ca glue to get it to hold any detail. I do not plan to use this type of blank in the future.

coffee bean blankGreat pen blank, turned and finished great. It made a fantastic looking pen. I have tried others and had a hard time with them chipping. This was a great quality blank.

coffee pleaseWhat a great finished product, however the beans were very soft, and required special attention.

Great GiftThis is the neatest pen blank. To be able to smell the coffee before even opening the plastic bag. A great gift for the coffee drinker!

smells great but tough to workThe whole idea of a coffee scented pen blank intrigued me so I got a couple. They smell better than advertised. But they're real tough to work. I ruined the first one drilling it out. Blew out the bottom exerting very little force - even after repeatedly clearing the waste from the flutes. They're tough to turn, also. The beans chip easily as well as the binder (acrylic?). For me, too much effort for what I'd consider a novelty pen.
