Bocote 3/4 x 3/4 x 5 (5pks) diagonally cut blanks
Diagonally cut blanks accentuate the wood grain and make great looking pens. They are a bit more expensive than their stright cut counterparts but the results are well worth it. Pack of 5

You will want to use a sharp chisel and you need to take a little extra care in sanding. I sand 150, 220, 320, 400 and 600 grit... make sure you don't skip a grit, remember to stop the lathe and sand the length of the barrels between grits, and give a little extra time on the final two grits. I finished with EEE ultra shine followed by Shellawax. In addition, due to variations in wood you'll want to plan on some careful matching of the blanks. I turn them until they are round and a little bigger than I need for whatever pen style I'm trying to match then select 2 matching pairs of barrels to finish into a set. Take a little time and you'll be glad you did.
