I live in a very dry area. I prepped the blank to make a pair of bottle stoppers and set them aside for a couple of days. When I came back to them the blanks had developed checks in the exposed ends(the whole blank came to me coated in wax). I have turned one of them finished with the shellwax and waiting to see if other checks develop or if the others at the base propogate any further. Turns very easy and is prone to "catches" since I am a new turner. Very pretty when finished.

This wood is very similar to Bloodwood, but not as dark. I use the 2x2 stock to turn bottle stoppers in the shape of Washington Delicious apples (complete with the stem (added after buffing - drill small hole at an angle where the stem would be, glue in a small clipping from a lilac bush)) Very popular at craft shows.
