I needed this chuck at the headstock to grip doweling. It's a well-finished, quality piece of tooling. It does have a tendency to spin loose from the dowel, especially if the lathe is repeatedly started/stopped. I have to remember to retighten the chuck each time I stop. I don't think this problem would surface if the chuck were gripping what it was designed for -- steel bits, instead of wooden dowels. I might have done better with the keyed chuck instead of this keyless one.
