1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Misleading product description
Reviewer: Louie Powell (Saratoga Springs, NY)

There is a potential safety issue with this product. The description on the PSI web page states that it "can be used for grabbing small turnings or pen madrels on the headstock" and that it accepts a 1/4x20 drawrod. These words imply that the chuck will be held on the lathe spindle by the draw rod and say nothing about the need to use a live center in the tail stock to restrain axial movement of the workpiece. What the description FAILS to state is that the drawrod only secures the chuck shaft of the chuck to the lathe spindle. It DOES NOT mention that the chuck itself attaches to its shaft via a second Morse taper, and using a drawrod DOES NOT secure the chuck to its shaft. The chuck DOES NOT come with instructions, so the purchaser is left to interpret the misleading words in the product description, and this can lead to using it in an unsafe manner. I have raised this question with Penn State in both e-mails and by telephone, and so far I have not receive a satisfactory answer.

Exactly what I was looking for. The drill chuck greatly expanded the utility and capability of my mini-lathe. I've now got a variable speed drill press at a fraction of the cost.

Seems to work well as a small piece chuck or a drill bit holder. Easy to assemble and use.

This drill chuck is what I wanted, but there is no way to keep the chuck on the #1 MT that goes in my lathe. It is tapered and just sits on the #1 MT . When I turn the lathe on it just vibrates and falls off. When I ordered this part I thought it was going to be one piece, not two pieces. It works only if I use the tail stock with it.

Very sturdy and true chuck. I am new to wood turning so I don't have a lot of experience with Drill Chucks but this one works as advertised. No complanits on my part.
