Worth the priceI often work with very hard woods such as Honey Mesquite, and Texas Ebony. The carbide cutters in this trimer are IMO the only way to go, making fast clean work or trimming blanks. I had to learn to use a lot less pressure with this trimmer that I use with the four blade HSS trimmer to prevent "catches" but it still cuts faster.

get this one and save troubleI had bought the other cutter with 4 blades and it works fine on soft woods. Hard woods are a different story. I had tore up some brass and blanks. Finally I bought this one and the problems are gone. I agree with another reviewer that 4 blades would be better. I wish I had spent the extra money and bought this one first but sometimes you just don't know until you try it.

Worth the costI bought the Carbide Cutter to use with the PSI Trimmer Kit (Steel Cutter). I've used the new cutter on several hard wood blanks. It cuts well and neatly.

Replacement Carbide cutterSuper sharp! Far less effort to trim pen barrels. I wish I had found this little do-dad hundreds of pens ago! Pricey, but I think I'll get my money's worth out of it in just a few weeks. My trimming time has been cut substantially.

works much better than steel oneI bought the trimmer with the steel cutter. After making about 20 pens, it didn't work as well as it had before. I bought this carbide cutter and the difference is like night and day, even compared to when the steel one was new. I have found that it's less grabby if turned at a very slow speed. It doesn't seem to like high speed. I've made about 30 pens with it so far, and it works as well as on the first pen.

Carbide cutter headThis was not as good as I thought it would be, it might have worked better if it had three cutting blades instead of two. This cutter seems to grab my wood blanks only if I pushed very hard and then I had problems with it splitting my pencil blanks when the pressure was applied, so I just resharpened my old HSS cutter head and it worked fine. I cut many of my own pen/pencil blanks using local hardwoods, one being persimmon which is a very hard wood,HSS worked much better than the Carbide.

Carbide CutterMuch better than the high speed steel.

Great for spare toolI bought this as a spare trimmer. Good value for the price
