I avoid kits mostly. The gold hardware and the slimlines in general aren't my favorite look. I ended up getting a better mandrel as well. I would pay a little more and customize to your preference. If the hardware is good for you, not a bad kit.

Very good value. Chisels are good. I might need to replace the trimmer as it has some room between the shaft and the blades, which lets it trim more than needed.

My first order was for the basic starter kit. I was quite satisfied until I tried the 7mm drill which was far from straight. I told PSI and they quickly replaced it with a good drill bit. On my second order which included comfort pens and pencils was more complicated. The bushing set included two large bushings and the instructions showed the use of the two bushings. Unfortunately the pen parts are sized for only one lagre bushing in the center and the smaller standard spacer bushings on both ends. By the time I figured out that the directions were wrong, I had destroyed one pen kit and one pencil kit, along with the wooden blanks. I note that the product description now says to use only the one large bushing in the middle, but the down-loadable instructions are still wrong. Otherwise the products were all good and I am enjoying the pen making.

Great introductory kit. The wood was a great starter wood that machined nicely without chipping. Good confidence builder. Quality pen mechanics that look great on the finished product. Good kit to start with to get your hands dusty on.

This was a great starter set. Got me started the very next day. Only thing I would change is to have just a little variety in the blanks in the kit.
