Nice package

This was a really good deal for getting started in pen turning if you have a shopsmith. It does require a live center or, the mandrel saver center (recomended). The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the blanks that come with the kit are all rosewood. I would have much rather had a variety of woods to try out.

worth it

I'm new at pen turning and this kit was just what I needed. Although I did not receive the Shellawax friction finishing polish. I believe that has something to do with shipping to Alaska. On the positive side, my order arrived in a timely manner and I put the kit right to use.

Very good starter kit

This is a very good starter kit. It contains all that you need to start making pens. I was very satisfied with all the items though the lathe tools are not top quality they are adequate to turn pens. Very happy with my first try at pen turning.

Great for beginners

This is a great kit for anyone who wants an inexpensive way to start making pens. I searched for a long time to figure out what would work with an old Craftsman lathe as it turned out help was only a phone call away to Penn State Industries and I ordered this kit shortly after. However, I recomend that people also order the pen making DVD when they purchase this kit so that they know how to use it the best!
