7mm pen a NO-NO

Turning this pen to make a lower 7mm barrel is almost impossible. by the time you get near the point of the correct diameter it's to late - the inside metal tube is showing. 8mm and up is the way to go. Wasted my $39.95 on this pen. made the upper barrel OK, ended up making the lower section out of wood - at least ended up with a pen.

During the sanding to final size the stripe field and star field exploded. Not sure if it was the wood used or what. Followed instructions to the tee. Glue set up for 48 hours or longer prior to turning. Not sure if I would purchase another of these kits or not. You would think for 39.95 a kit, they would be of better quality for fit and wood. Sorry for the bad review but I'm not happy with the product.

I made two star spangled pen prior to attemting the 7 mm inlay kit. The larger the pen size (Cigar pen) the easier it was to turn the blanks. The pens turned out great. I no sooner touched the striped blank with my turning chisel it broke. At the price charged for these inlay kits, I don't think I'll be making many more of them.
