This letter opener has a thick solid metal blade unlike other openers purchased from other companies. This gives it a more expensive look and feel.

Matching this item to the pen/pencil set is usually paramont. I used a long blank and cut all three items from the same piece of wood giving me an almost perfect match. The actual turning is pretty straight forward and won't be much trouble for even a novice turner.
