#1 Morse Taper Maxi-Mandrel
#1 Morse Taper Maxi-Mandrel. This mandrel features a 7mm mandrel shaft that slides through a headstock collet. This feature guarantees a perfectly concentric pen. The mandrel easily adapts to different length projects. Simply mount your tubes and bushings then slide the shaft to the appropriate length and lock it in place. The shorter shaft reduces the likelihood of the mandrel shaft bowing. The collect is tightened with two 7/8" wrenches (NOT included). Maxi-Mandrels include 5 bushings. This item replaces the PKM-EL

I love this mandrel. The adjustable style and the clamping technique works great. I enjoy using the mandrel to turn the 7 mm pens. It performs well and has easily turned pens and is extremely functional compared to the standard non-adjustable mandrels.

Not much to tell about a mandrel. It simply does what it claims that it will do.

This mandrel worked perfect in my lathe and I haven't had a bit of trouble turning pens or pencils.

The Morse Taper Maxi-Mandrel is a solidly built Mandrel. I used to use a drill press mandrel but using the Maxi on a lathe is ten times better. The ability to slide the mandrel through the locking nuts makes it real easy to size the mandrel to the project you're working on. I've got a variable speed lathe and so far haven't noticed any problems running at low or high speeds. The only thing that I didn't like about the mandrel is the fact that I need two 7/8" wrenches for the locking nuts. This was clearly stated in the ad, but since I only have a standard set of wrenches, my set only goes to 3/4". I guess that's what crescent wrenches are for. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Morse Taper Maxi-Mandrel. For the price you pay, you get a nice solid addition to your lathe.
