Ikebana flanged insertMy wife loved the urn-shaped ikebana vase I turned from amboyna burl for one of these inserts. It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my mother, but the missus is having a hard time letting go of it. It was a pretty easy project, turned on centers to rough out the shape, including a spigot on the bottom to transfer the work to a 2" scroll chuck in order to finish the top and let in a rebate for the insert. A coat of medium walnut danish oil brought out the grain nicely, and then a coat of paste wax made finishing easy. This insert, unlike the unflanged variety, is slightly tapered, and it is easy to get a good press fit but still have it removable for cleaning. If the insert diameter were a better fit for number-two scroll chuck jaws, it would be an even easier project. I have a five by eight block of spalted maple that is going to hold the other insert I bought from PSI, I can't wait to get started on that project.

Very nice changeThis is a wonderful change from the usual item. Very easy to turn for. Highly reccomended.
