If I can do it...

anyone can. I just started woodworking and used a drill press, band saw, and lathe on this project. I bought two of these kits. By far the hardest part is drilling the holes...extension is a must and going slow so the bit doesn't get stuck in there. I turned a cone shaped piece of wood that I stuck in my 4 jaw chuck. I stuck the large hole side on that and the center on the small end..worked fine. I used honey locus for the wood and they turned out beautiful (wish I could include a pic, you might be able to see it here: http://www.woodturningonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2509). I did not have to break or file or alter the plastic in any way. I did not use glue and this kit finished up stout. I have been cooking far longer than woodworking and any chef would love this grinding mechanism...if fact I'm only writing this because I'm back to get two more to make as Christmas gifts. I could not be more pleased with this pepper mill.

Pepper Mill

This produced a realy nice pepper mill. I had some trouble getting the mechanical device to glue into the turned wood mill. Once I solved the glue issue it turned out great.

Crush Grind Peppermills

I found the mechanism quite satisfactory. I did find the 1 1/16th" drill to be one not readily available. It might be helpful if it was noted that PSI has them.

This project is technically difficult to complete. The kit is designed for metric forstner bits which requires breaking of pieces of the mechanism to accommodate SAE sizes.

This is the best mechanism I've used and I'm on my sixth peppermill. I'll keep using the CrushGrind mechanism mostly for it's easy installation process and the fact that it accepts both salt and pepper.
