I have created two pens so far with this kit and both times people have asked me to recreate their pen with this finish. It is absolutely worth the money.
Only two cons so far.
1. Ends of blanks chipped a little when removing from bushings (I have a feeling the more I do the less this will happen)
2. Drying time for the CA glue. (But I am very impatient.
I am new to the art of turning pens and will say that I was very impressed with the finish I received from "I can't believe this finish starter kit". Every person that has seen my pens asked how I got the finish to look so good. This kit really makes a novice look like a pro! Takes a little extra time, but well worth it.

I'm new to pen turning, and this kit was fantastic in allowing me to come up with a terrific looking, durable pen finish. The result is glossy and hard. I'll probably find other uses as well, such as small bowls and other art projects.
I don't know that I'll use it for every pen, as it is a fairly lengthy process, using several coats of CA glue and a lot of sanding, plus it's not particularly pleasant, or safe, to use that much CA. But for occasional high-gloss articles, I doubt it can be beat. Definitely 5 stars.
A couple of suggestions for safety. The instructions say to use gloves, and it's a really good idea. I got lazy and stopped using them (and I confess, will probably do so again), and almost glued myself to the pen at one point! Also, it's essential to wear eye protection with that much CA in use, and I'd advise wearing old clothes as well. Cover your lathe bed with newspaper or some other disposable covering, as a fair amount of glue will drip off of your pen. (By the way, the relatively large amount of wasted glue necessary to cover the pen is my only real complaint about this kit.) Also, make sure that you rub the paper towel pad with CA on the pen tube that you do so lightly and rapidly, as if you don't, it's possible for the paper to stick to the pen tube, necessitating a significant amount of scraping or coarse sanding.
Do this, though, and you'll come out with some great looking pens!
