The gouge size is American measurement so a 5/8" bowl gouge is the same as a 1/2" bowl gouge from UK. The bevel angle from the factory is 33 degree. This bevel angle is OK for very shallow bowls. They need to be reground for bowl with its depth longer its radius. I regrind them to 50 degree as I already have two Sorby bowl gouges with 62 degree bevel for deep bowls. The flute shape is v-shaped so the cut may be more aggressive. I have not used any bowl gouges with v-shaped flutes so I do not know their behavior. The flute length is about 5". This is one inch shorter than most the bowl gouges from UK with bevel angle at 50 degree or steeper. I also lost about 1/8" after I reground the bevel angle. This set of bowl gouges is at less than one-third the cost of my Sorby set. I will try them soon to see how they compare to my Sorby bowl gouges. At this moment, I think it is a very good value.

I ordered Three of Benjamin's Best Bowl Gouges, and when I received them I discovered they had shipped two of the same size gouges. When I called and notified them of the error there was no problem in resolving this issue. I am vEry please with the performance of these tools, and they are a vary good value.

The steel could be harder, but for the price it is very hard to go wrong. They get the job done and seem to be of good quality.
