Pleasant surpriseI bought this chisel for its length and carbide router tip specifically to hollow alabaster and other soft stones on the lathe. My first use was in a workshop with an experienced turner, though new to stone, who got an excellent hollowing experience, including superior surface finish and smooth feel. The cutter made really quick work of hollowing the stone, usually a slow process. This is my new favorite tool!

to long and left handed! After reading the first two reviews,I hesitate to complain, BUT; for small pen turning, I have yet to figure out how to use this tool right handed. Maybe I'm missing something here. Also, the tool is much to long for most of my uses.

Better than expectedWorks great on both hardwood and greenwood. I turned a Kingwood bowl and cuts so smooth that it really cuts down sanding time. I was surprised how well it worked turning a green bowl. If your careful you can drill with it and get the most amazing shear cuts. It's my new finishing tool! And it's the most inexpensive carbide lathe chisel tool on the market.

Very nicely executed toolI received this as a gift and didn't hesitate to try it out. I especially like the length because it balances very well in my hands. I tried it on a variety of woods from very dense/hard to very soft. It did a wonderful job on all the woods that I tried and I am not at all dissapointed. I'm rating it at 4 stars because to me, the set screws just a little bit too long and I'm either going to replace them or trim mine down so they don't stick up as far. I know this is a very minor issue but I'm the kind of person that tinkers with most of my tools to make them fit me and my style of turning. What I'm most impressed with is the way the carbide router bit seemed just as sharp after almost an hour of turning - no kidding. I'm looking forward to trying other router bits to see how they may work in my turning - 1/4 straight for cutting a shoulder or different size roundover bits for different angles...
