I got this carbide tipped skew as a surprise for my wife who is doing a terrific job making pens. She prefers turning acrylic which requires very sharp tools and the carbide tip means less sharpening time.

I have started to turn the Tru-Stone blanks and I was running into problems. My standard HSS tools were fine to turn them round, but after they were round, they would not cut anymore. So I purchased this skew and the matching spindle gouge. Both required light honing to be ready to use. What I don't like about them is the handles are too small and hurt my hand. As soon as I get a chance I will turn full size handles.
