2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 great idea - poor execution
Reviewer: Brian Meyette (Cornish, NH)

While the idea of this dedicated bowl finishing chuck is a great idea, unfortunately it was spoiled by the poor way it is made. First, there is a large about of slop in the jaws, on all 3 axis. The circles of holes for mounting the grip pins are not even concentric. Second, when chucking a bowl into this chuck, the grip pin mount holes are so out of round that not all the grip pins are even contacting the bowl. On each of the 4 plates, one grip pin contacts the bowl rim, while there is a gap between the bowl rim and the other pin on that radius of that 1/4 plate. Very poorly made and a big disappointment.

This is exactly what I was looking for and the price was good and the delivery service was excellent. It works very well, holds the bowl tight with no distortion. Thanks, sclrt

I've used this chuck 4 times now and find it very useful for finishing off the foot of a bowl. It's a lot handier than making a jam chuck and produces better work. Two down sides are that it's sort of a pain to have to change the position of the 8 rubber grippers each time you make a different sized bowl and the hex key that came with it for that purpose isn't sized very well. One other common sense warning; USE YOUR TAILSTOCK when turning a piece mounted on this chuck! On the up side, the fit and finish of the metal is good and it works as I thought it would.

The cost is much less than a chuck plus the jumbo jaws. Does the same job in less time as you don't have to change jaws. It comes with 3 sets of pins another money saver. Great item.

This product works well except for the gaps. The scroll chuck doesn't move fare enough to cover every diameter of bowl within it's min/max range. I have used it four times now and two of my bowls were too small for one ring. So, I adjusted the screws down to the next ring. Now the bowls were too big. I suppose you get what you pay for. It is not a top quality item but it works very well when the bowl fits.

I have been using for some time now, large and small items, short and long, also get the optional long soft jaws, they will give you more opportunities of different size work to turn.

This bowl chuck makes it very convenient to reverse a bowl for turning or finishing the base. Just make sure any finish is completely dry before clamping or the soft jaws will leave marks. I considered knocking off 1 star for the wrench because it is a very large T-handle with loose cross piece. This makes it hard to tighten with one hand while holding the bowl with the other hand. The square drive is 8mm so I can't even replace it with a 1/4" or 3/8" spinner handle.

I am happy with the chuck, it does a great job. I was glad to see it had 3 different size studs for holding bowls. It looks good and has a great finish. The only thing I don't like & can be a problem is the allen screws that goes in the studs is made of too soft metal two of the screws have already rounded off. they don't fit metric or standard size allen wrenchs well.
