The PSI Super Center #1 MT 1/2" Crown
Get a better bite on your spindle with PSI's new "Super Center". More teeth give a better bite while providing equal pressure and a positive drive. There is no need to hammer your drive center into the work piece and risk splitting your work. A spring loaded point simplifies the positioning of your spindle in the center and retracts to avoid spitting your work when tailstock pressure is applied. Compatible with headstocks with #1MT spindles. Crown is 1/2" wide for narrower work.

I received this drive center and was turning in a matter of minutes. I'm sure that you can use it without punching the center of the blank because of the retractable point but I guess old habits are hard to break. I found this drive center worked excellent in hard tight grained wood without any tearing. It's ability to drive when I was trying to intentionally work is hard even kept me honest when it kept turning but slowed the lathe. The only downside I can find is that on softer grain woods it seems to tear out a bit when I got a bit aggressive but not much more than with the standard drive center that I used to use.
