I received this item as a gift and could not be happier with it. It is assembled with fit and finish in mind. Strong weld ground down and cleaned. The short and long curves are just right for inside and outside radius's on smaller bowls. The fit in my Delta lathe was perfect. I don't see any real drawbacks. You will get what you paid for.

This tool rest is well made except for the fact that the post is slightly less than 1/2" in diameter, which prevents it from being tightened in the tool rest base.

I have a Delta 46-460 and the post on this is 1 1/2" shorter than the Delta. You can't even come close to the center line of the piece and tighten the screw to hold the rest in place. Very disappointing.

2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 A good tool – but a little too short
Reviewer: Mark Holden (Tewksbury, MA)

I have a 12" Rikon (similar to the Jet) and found that the post was too short. When just barely catching the bottom of the post in the tool rest holder I found the top of the tool rest to be about 1" below the centerline. I had a friend cut off most of the post and welded on a new one. Now that it's long enough it's a great tool that I prefer to use most of the time.

Excellent for bowl shaping. Couldn't be happier with the tool rest. Extremely happy with the price. I went to a local store and they wanted to charge over $50.00.

I'm just learning bowl turning, so I didn't know what I really was looking for in a curved tool rest. I an very pleased with what I purchased. My instructor at my bowl turning class was impressed with the quality as well.

If you don't have an "S" rest yet, buy this one! The quality is excellent, and best of all, it makes turning bowls, vases and other items much safer to do. I'm new to turning, but this rest really gave me better control by increasing support and keeping my tools steady while hollowing.

The tool rest has a good shape for getting into the interior of a bowl. The paint on it is not so good. As I moved tools over it, the paint wore off. When I went past the worn spot, it caused my tool to jerk, ending up with a gouge in the work.
