Some shortcomingsThe product description says it will hold a 8-1/2 inch bowl. I turned one 7-3/4 inches. When I reversed it and tried to get it into the flat chuck, it couldn't be done. I have put as much twist on the adjustment handle as I feel I can do without damaging the chuck, but not luck. Then, I bought the set of jaws that expand the capacity to 14 inches. On the smallest setting, I cannot get it down to 7-3/4 inches. So, between the two, there is a range of about 7-5/8 to about 8-3/4 that cannot be held. Someone did some bad designing.

works well, except spacingI use these jaws all the time. They work great and seem to be of good quality. The only problem I've ever had with them is that the difference between the diameter of the outer ring of peg holes and the diameter of the next-to-outer ring of holes is greater than the adjustment range of the Barracuda chuck. This means you can turn a bowl that happens to be too big for the next-to-outer ring of holes with the chuck jaws adjusted fully out and too small for the outer ring of holes with the chuck jaws adjusted fully in. I was finally able to get around this by gluing pieces of radiator hose onto the pins and using the outer ring of holes for the pins with the chuck adjusted fully in. I also subsequently bought PSI's "Bowl Mounting Pin Sets", which come with fatter pins, which help with the problem.

Not as big as advertisedThese jaws are extremely well made and versatile. They mount to my Barracuda T/N chuck nicely. My only complaint is how large a diameter blank they will hold. I thought they would expand to the full 8", but this is not the case with my chuck and these jaws. I can only expand them to hold about 7.5" and that's pushing the limit. I would definitely recommend these jaws to others, but they should know the diameter limitations. I'm still very pleased with the purchase as I am with all the PSI products I've bought.

Must-have for finishing the bowl bottomI ordered this set of jaws along with the Barracuda2 kit. Being new to turning bowls, I was a little nervous about re-mounting the bowl to finish the bottom. The extended jaws run dead-true and held everything nice and tight. It was hard to tell just how tight to turn the chuck considering it was clamping onto a <1/4 inch thick rim. So I went with my gut and it worked out just fine. The pegs have a rubber coating that is thick enough to squish in a little. You can see it on close inspection. I got the bowl perfectly lined up on the first try. A few weeks later, I also ordered the even larger kit that mounts onto this one to make 14" diameter possible. That kit came with several sizes and configurations of mounting pegs. If I were PSI, I would supply those pegs with the 8" set...it is really nice to have different possibilities right off the bat.

happy with flat jawsI have used my 8 in. flat jaws several times and have found it useful for many instances. However it is not an endall as nothing is. I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it as a way to hold larger round items. It works best when working from the end not the side.

awesomeI just got the jaws in and they work great. I would recommend these to anyone.

Flat jaws reviewI am happy with my flat jaws

Great product

8Well made and easy to use. Priced better than most attachments for the C series chucks. Was a great help in putting the finishes on bowls.

Good StuffThese Flat Jaws came packaged with the 4 jaw chuck I purchased. Good solid build, should last a lifetime and I have used them many times. However, they will only expand to 8-1/8" in diameter not 8-1/4" like the description says. Unfortunately for me, I made a bowl 8-3/16" in diameter and cut it loose from the faceplate. Then I tried to chuck it in these flat jaws and it wouldn't fit. They won't expand to 8-3/16" no matter how hard I try. Other than that I am very happy with them.
