With three sets of holes for the gripping pins and the full range of extension of the basic "C" chuck, the flat jaws have given me a wide range of diameters to internally and externally grip projects without marring them. The only concern is that one must be aware of the geometry of the project as the pins are fairly long and will require some projects to be gripped with a space (or spacer) between the project and the face of the jaw plate. A great improvement would be to include a second set of reverse taper, gripping pins that were only 3/8" long.

I've been wanting to get a set of these for a long time for my TEKNATOOL G3 CHUCK. From everything that I could find on them they should fit the G3 CHUCK. WRONG! I bought these and they came in yesterday and I couldn't wait to try them out. I got small bowl almost done last night and went to put these jaws on my G3 to finish it, and the screws are too big for the holes, or the holes are to small for the mounting screws, to mount them on the chuck. Now I'm stuck with them and I'm not sure if I should try to drill them out and still use them or pay to ship them back. With my luck if I drill out the holes to make them a little bigger they still wont fit on the chucks hard jaws.

The 5" flat jaws chuck does a great job of handling projects that are less than 3 1/2" in diameter. It does a great job of holding the bowl by the top without leaving any marks while I finish the bottom to remove the inditation made by the live center. This allows for a better looking finish.

I had been on the fence about this type of item but am now glad I gave it a chance. It holds my work securely and allows me the flexibility to fix some of my creative missteps. Will probably buy the larger item to handle my needs with larger items.
