This is my second air cleaner. My first is a Jet AFS1000B which is an excellent cleaner. I opened the PSI box and quickly installed the new PSI AC1000 system and was surprised by the similarities between the Jet and the PSI sytems. Asside from the following differences, they are virtually identical. First of all, the physical dimensions are different with the Jet being wider and not as high. Second, the pre-filter on the PSI is far superior to the JET. The air-flow rate appears to be the same as well as all other speed, remote and timer control features. Finally, the PSI is much quieter than the JET at high speed, a nice advantage in a noisy workshop. There is no doubt that they are made by the same company and the PSI system is considerably less expensive making it an exceptional value. This is the first time I have submitted a review but I felt it was worth sharing.
This is a nice, inexpensive unit. I have two of them. They have been running for a couple of years now with no problems. My only complaint is the lack of a higher-rated pocket filter. The standard offering is ASHRAE 65 (rated according to the older ASHRAE 52.1 standard) which is effective only with larger particles. You need ASHRAE 98 or better (rated according to the newer ASHRAE 52.2 standard that includes with a MERV rating) of 13 or better to effectively capture sub-micron particles. I had to order higher rated ASHRAE pocket filters from a specialized filter manufacturer. Unfortunately, they do not quite fit and I had to cobble together adapters to the front of my AC1000 units to handle the better filters. For the prefilter in front of the unit I use the latest 3M furnace filters (which at 14X20 also do not quite fit without my adapters) that have a MERV rating of 12.
