I got a stabilized buckeye burl and a stabilized maple burl blank and was disappointed with both. THey were like grey ashes with a very little wood mixed together and glued. They cracked and chipped very easily when turned. I've turned with wood and acrylic blanks before so it wasn't because of inexperience or not using sharp tools. They were a disappointment and looked nothing like the pictures.

The spalted woods, including the Maple, are some of the most gorgeous woods in the world. I make pens from the Spalted Maple, Tamarind, Oak, Beech and Sycamore
which are my favorites.

I've purchased these blanks 2 times now, both times the quality and figure in the wood has been superior to blanks I've found locally at one of the "major chain" woodworking stores. This sure makes a beautiful pen.

This was the first piece of stabilized wood that I've ever turned and I was very pleased with the results. The final finish on this was amazing!
