Very nice starter kit. I had never turned a pen before and this kit and DVD made it a clear and simple process. The down side, I have already spent a bunch on buying more pen kits to turn! It can be very addictive.

I decided to finally try pen turning along with some other small turning projects. I hadn't used a lathe for many years. The starter kit provided everything I needed to get started and the results were super. The kit was of good value to get into turning once again and specifically turning pens. I'm doing it just as a hobby with no intention of selling a finished product. It's been amazing how many friends I didn't know I had. I've yet to turn a pen that I've been able to keep for myself.

This is a great kit for beginners! The pre-cut blanks are great for letting beginners focus on learning how to use the lathe and turning tools, and the 2 part epoxy blows CA Glue out of the water any day!

I HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN TO MAKE WOODEN PEN, THIS SET HAD EVERYTHING TO GET ME STARTED AND WAS VERY SIMPLE. AFTER RECEIVING MY MATERIAL I WAS TURNING PENS THAT DAY AND THE FIRST ONE WAS PERFECT. PLEASE CONSIDER INCLUDING SOME SANDING SUPPLIES IN THE KIT AS THAT WAS ALL I NEEDED THAT WASN'T INCLUDED.

the pen/pencil kits are working very nicely. the chisels are cheap and were not sharp to start. This would be a problem for a novice turner. After sharpening they work OK, but luckily I have better chisels to do most of the work

This was given to me as a gift to start pen turning and it comes with everything needed to make pens and pencils. The only thing that could have been better would have been to include the pen press since it is so helpful in the assembling stage. If you already have a wood lathe and sand paper this is all you need.
