Finest writing pen that I have ever used.
I did both the 30 Caliber and 50 Caliber, both of the came out extremely well. I put the rattlesnake skin on top and it looks great!
Reviewer: Richard Landin (Moore, SC)
This was a medium difficulty pen to make and assemble. I love the finished product. I made this as a gift and used an antler from a deer he shot last year for the top part. The result is awesome. I was hoping to attach the tip of the antler to the "Clicker" but it has to finish flush with the top. I will probably make several mor of these pens as custom orders for his friends.
Reviewer: Chris Clouser (Frankfort, IN)
I was pleased with the ease of making this pen. I used Cocobolo for a very nice accent to the gold finish. This pen was an instant hit and sold quickly for me. I appreciated the click-pen design, as I seem to have a lot of twist pens. I will be ordering more of these in the future.
Reviewer: Bryan Slick (Marshville, NC)
I made a lot of these with deer antler and camouflage. I have sold some with camouflage but a lot more with the deer antler. Lots of deer hunters around here. They are easy to make and assemble. I only had one I had trouble with and I solved the problem myself. Great pen.
Reviewer: Donham Walker (Florence, OR)
Excellent product, easy to turn and assemble. Many rave comments from friends.
Reviewer: Robert McCallister (Spring, TX)
Terrific new pen kit. I have made several for my hunting friends using prairie rattlesnake blanks, camo acrylic, and wood. All looked great when finished. Need to really pay attention to a more complicated assembly process than normal pen kits.
Reviewer: Bruce Publicover (Kennesaw, GA)
This is a very nice pen, good design, but the instructions/video indicate that you press the tip and end part at the same time. I ruined 4 kits before discovering that the tip should be pressed 1st - then the other part gets pressed in. Simple fix I think, but it was also costly since you can not get spare replacement parts. Now that is an idea.... spare replacement parts if the pen can be disassembled.
Reviewer: Rick McDowell (Acworth, GA)
The pen is great...instructions need to be changed to say press pen tip into cartridge by itself first then the tube and tail piece into tip. The cartridge is tougher metal the the brass tube and takes far more force. Before learning this i ruined 3 kits... Love the finished pen.
Love this pen kit. Waiting for deer pen clips.
I suggest option to change the tips. I have been asked to put rose colored tips on the brass and chrome pens.

Pen kit is of the highest quality and was beautiful when finished. Watch the web cam demo prior to assembly as instructions are a little fuzzy to someone new to pen turning, and you don't want to ruin a great looking pen. PSI has hit another one out of the park with this kit. Looking farward to making the new twist pen.
Reviewer: Frank Mathes III (Hawthorne, CA)
Very easy to produce and a hit with all the Military personal I know. The writing instrument glides on the paper. Can't get them off the lathe fast enough!
Reviewer: Bruce Andrise (Dawsonville, GA)
I had built this pen once before. The kit works well and the instructions are easy to follow.
Reviewer: Pat Ross (La Verne, CA)
This is a great looking pen, and has been very popular. The only problem I have had is during assembly. I have had three center couplers break in the pen press, ruining the kit. Try to use a light hand in the pen press.
Reviewer: Richard Nash (Muskegon, MI)
A very attractive pen. Popular with the outdoorsmen.
This kit assembles easily - the click mechanism works well. The ink cartridge is also a winner.
Reviewer: Robert Demming (Kenmore, NY)
Excellent product! You might want to warn people in the instructions not to over compress the pen when joining the parts.
Pen with deer antler was great drawing card to my stand at a recent wine fest.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PEN AND MAKES A GREAT GIFT. I MADE ONE FOR MY BROTHER WITH THE CAMOUFLAGE BLANK AND IT LOOKED GREAT AND HE LOVED IT.

I got one to see how they look and I am very happy with this pen. Looks great. Just wish you could keep them in stock.
Reviewer: Donald Fenton (Summerville, SC)
Over all this pen is impressive, the sad part comes in the area of parts. Have found numerious kits with a faulity plastic transmission. You should have a better design than this one.
Reviewer: Larry Krull (Fort White, FL)
I have made pens, and I have made PENS, but the bullet cartridge is one of the best, to make them even better I switch the silver tip to the gold cartridge and vice versa. Makes them really stand out. I use Indian Water Buffalo horn and they look like a like a million bucks (no pun intended). This pen kit goes together fast and with only one piece to turn its fast. The grip is so comfotable and well balanced. The sportmen really like the style. After the first one they are a piece of cake to assemble,

I was not sure what to expect, pictures say a thousand words, but the kit and the process to make the pen was worth more. Turned out beautiful, my son will love it as much as I do. Thanks PSI..

Quick and easy to make and a great seller too. I finished one and began using it anytime I needed a pen and people would almost always comment on the pen. Then they are amazed when I tell them, "I make those." Another pen sold. Match the kit with camoflage acrylic and it makes a good gift for the military people in your family.

This kit is a snap to make, and I sell them as fast as I can make them.
Reviewer: LOYLE COUSINO (Highland, IN)
Great pen, easy assembly, smooth operating click mechanism. I used deer antler for the top half and switched the gold nib for the chrome. Good quality kit, I will buy more.
Reviewer: David Jenkins (Springfield, OR)
I was very impressed with the ease of assembly and the overall fit and finish of this kit. Turning the pen was easy - I used the Lava camoflauge acrylic blanks and they look great. I used the specified bushings and the blank was exactly the right diameter when I was done. The pen went together easily and the action is very smooth. I brought it to work and now I have to make a dozen more for my friends!
Reviewer: Jim Hill (North Charleston, SC)
I just bought two of these, one for me and one for my brother, a police sniper. The fit and finish are excellent and I didn't have a problem assembling either pen. The video helped. I am very impressed with the ink, it's the best writing kit I have made to date.
Reviewer: JOHN BOMBACI (NORTHWOOD, NH)

Reviewer: Matt (Normal, IL)
Good pen. I found it easy to put together. After a few weeks though it needed a little "re-tweaking," so that the pen point stuck out the correct distance. Great look though.
Reviewer: mark morissette (summerfield, NC)
The best so far. A great seller.
Reviewer: Robert Simmons (Ada, MI)
This is a really neat kit. I did find problems with the assembly. By following the instructions I ended up pushing the lower tube too far into the cartridge portion. I ended up gluing the upper barrel to a little nub of tub. On my second try, I mounted the nib first and inserted the tube into it after the nib was attached to the cartridge.
Reviewer: James Empey (Bloomfield, NY)
Love this kit, easy to make and a real hit with my hunting buddies. Quality of kit makes it real bargain.
The pen is fine and I have a lot of orders +30), however the assembly instructions in the CD/PDF files caused me to ruin 2 pens until I figured out to start at the tip and not the center. The updated instructions have a new sequence.
Reviewer: Harry Reed (Richmond, TX)
This is a great pen to both make and give as a gift. It was an easy pen to turn but gives with tremendous results. It made me look like a pro after only a few months into the hobby.
Reviewer: Charles A Wicks (St.Albert, Alberta)
This kit makes up real well. I made it with the camo top and it has a real good weight and feel to it. My only comment would be that be sure to read the assembly instruction over a couple of times.

Easy to assemble and looks great.
Love the little extra touch with
the company name and pen model on the
bullet end added at the top.
Didn't have the first one 12 hours and
it was sold.

Reviewer: Mac Davis (San Felipe, Baja California)
The concept of a cartridge pen is great, the actual kit leaves much to be desired.
The clip insert had fallen out of all of the kits I ordered and those that were in the bag were too small to possibly glue in.. The scope insert was a feature that I interested my clients in but had to show the finished pens with a strange hole in the end of the clip.
I would not buy this kit again.
Reviewer: Tony Eldridge (Tupelo, MS)
Not the easiest kit, but not a problem to assemble. Turning quite a simple operation, and the mechanism works well. A very interesting design, and a good alternative for those of us that make pens from shell casings. A good value overall.
Easy to put together and looks sharp. The finish really looks good and is something that is a real conversation piece. It fits well in your hand, not to big yet not so small that your hand starts to cramp. The pen itself flows as you write and is not hard to move across the paper.
Reviewer: Ronald Wiley (Dawsonville, GA)
Great instructions, easy to make, and writes great when complete. Bought this for 80+ year old Marine Vet. Made it up, had it laser engraved with name and Semper Fi, and gave it for birthday. To say it went over well is an understatement.
Reviewer: Leslie Blazevich (Missoula, MT)
I was impressed with the ease of assembly and turning. sold the first one to the first customer that looked at it. It is for a special market (hunters etc) and it would be nice to come in more calibers.

Seeking an outdoorsman look, I chose a laminates with green, brown and tan layers for the blank. You can get two blanks out of one 5.5" blank. The outdoors types really liked the color of the laminated blank. Turning the blank is easy, it is straight, but trimming the blank is best left to a disc sander with miter. If you use a barrel trimmer, you can expect to get split blanks, due to the diagonal grain pattern. If you do use a barrel trimmer, go very lightly.
Reviewer: Brent Draper (Kaysville, UT)
When I got every thing together the the pen looked great.
I had real difficulty getting the tip installed. My usually press would not do the trick, I had to get a C-clamp to get them together.
The rest of the pieces went together easily.
Reviewer: Clint Reierson (Hopewell, VA)
The Bullet Cartridge Kit is an easy kit to work with. With having the bullet cartridge at the end of the pen, you don't have as much blank material needed to create the pen. You can make two pens from a blank. In the long run it stretches the use of blank materials making this a great choice for pen making and what a presentation for those interested in hunting, target shooting or involved with competition shooting.
Reviewer: Amy Genzel (Caldwell, TX)
The improved version of the bullet cartridge pen is great. I especially loved the O-ring that holds the cartridge in place when the tip is removed. This is much better than having to keep track of the cartridge while replacing the ink tube.
Kit is easy to make, and makes a hunter's eyes tear up to think he can write with a shell casing. It was also the perfect gift for a soldier going to Iraq. I used the PSI dark black acrylic with gold flakes blank and it accents the brass quite nicely.
Reviewer: Donald Titus (Gettysburg, PA)
I followed the instructions step by step and had no problems in making this Pen. I could not imagine just how nice it would look when it was finished. I gave it for a gift and he was shocked just how nice it turned out. I liked it so much that I have ordered more.
This is a great pen that is easy to make since it only uses one blank. I did find assembly impossible since the instructions were wrong! Technical support helped me out only after I damaged 4 kits. I hope the correction was made in the instructions moving forward.
Reviewer: Brooks Teague (Grand Prairie, TX)
I have enjoyed making the pen. I have had several requests for the pen. The pen looks great using differnt blanks.
Also, I have made the pen using deer antler for the blank. Hunters like this pen.
This pen is easy to turn and looks great with antler material. The only flaw i found was with the tip. It has a ridge on it that is difficult to press in the lower tube. I broke one pen trying to press it in. I had to file down the ridge to get it to press in. Other then that it is really good looking pen
Reviewer: Thurston Vickery (Rockledge, FL)
This is the easiest pen I have made. Only one item to turn and easy to assemble.
Reviewer: Jerome Alterman (Reno, NV)
This is an excellent kit, one of the best click mechanisms I've worked with. Would have liked to seen a copper bullet, but gold works. I like being able to get two pens out of a single blank.
Reviewer: Robert Berry (Christiana, TN)

Reviewer: Paul Hebert (Aurora, CO)
This pen is sleek and just what the hunting folks wanted. It has lots of parts but easy to make. Nice Gel pen.
Reviewer: mike taylor (claremore, OK)
I like the looks and finish of the pen, also its quick and easy to turn. The price is right and overall a good pen, the nib holder however was very hard to press into place and does not fit well. When you unscrew the nib to change refills the cartridge slides off. I fixed it by glueing the cartridge to the nib holder and havent had any other problems.
Reviewer: Tom Bisbee (Tucson, AZ)
Excellent! I had trouble making the click mechanism work smoothly until I discovered that the way I was applying the CA glue was the problem. Apply the glue to the outside of the tube, not the inside of the blank. Doing the latter makes glue buildup inside the tube and interferes with the mechanism.

The bullet pen kit was out of stock and
I was to be notified when it came in. Since I'm new to Penn State I was sceptical. They e'mailed, I quickly ordered and WHAT A GREAT LOOKING PEN.
Thanks Penn State and I'm a VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER. I've already ordered more.
Reviewer: David Frantz (Brownstown, MI)
This is a great kit. I would however change one thing; I would make the diameter of the tip coupler just above the threads large enough to be a "press fit" into the small diameter of the cartridge. This would hold the cartridge in place when the refill is changed.
Reviewer: Rodney Kenny (Traveling in, )
The pen is excellent when assembled and is functional but.
One of three kits that I have assembled, had a cracked white plastic click part. So I had to rob another kit to make the pen work.
And one of the other two is sticky in function.
So if you must have five pens, you should order eight kits.
Reviewer: Anthony Boedeker (Independence, KY)
Not only was the pen kit easy to assemble, it was also very believable. All of my hunting friends could not believe that it was a pen kit and not a real bullet. Kudos to the person who designed this kit.

Living in a military town I've had a lot of interest in the Bullet pens. They are also a favorite gift for the local hunters. Everyone loves the smooth writing of the gel ink. I find them very easy to make.

This makes one beautiful pen. Personally I think it looks better than the ones made from brass or nickle. I used 2 pieces of wood on the top for several. Good work PSI.
Reviewer: Samuel Powers (Stillwater, OK)
This pen was better than I expected. It turned out beautiful when completed. I gave it as a gift and the person receiving it was very happy.
Reviewer: Robert L Young (Jacksonville, FL)
I've made hundreds of pens using kits from many sources and this one was one of the easiest to complete and it turned out great!
Reviewer: phil freeman (evergreen, AL)
Been using these kits for a while now, and was initially VERY happy with them. The most recent ones I recieved have been changed by the manufacturer: First, the tip coupler will NOT fit into the lower end of the cartridge due to a ridge located about mid-way on the coupler. The second issue is that the indented ring at the top end of the upper tube is now threaded. This prevents lateral adjustment of the clip which allows you to hide imperfections. If Penn State would change back to the original kit, it would continue to be a real winner!
I like both the gold and silver bullet pens. I think there needs to be a contrast between the "bullet" part and the "cartridge" part. I've done this by using the silver bullet part on a gold pen and vice-versa. It make's the pen look more like a bullet. Maybe you could offer them packaged like that.
Reviewer: James F Sinacola (Midland, MI)
I made several of these pens and they are easy to make & assemble and are of excellent quality. They go over very well with my customers. They are the first pens in my inventory to sell. By installing the ink refill first then screwing on the pen plunger to the click mechanism is much easier. In the instructions move the second to last item to before the you screw on the plunger makes assembly easy.
They make fine looking pens and sports people think they are great and they are easy to make

Excellent kit. Just made my first bullet cartridge pen with a deer antler top. Easy to assemble. I know when my co-workers that hunt see this pen they are going to want one.
Reviewer: Aaron Sellers (Columbiana, AL)
This is an excellent new pen. I have turned several of these pens with an antler top and had many people that love them. My only change to the product has been to order the gold and chrome kits and swap the tips. This makes the kits look even more like a real cartrigde. Beautiful pens.

Made one for a friend out of deer antler that he had hunted now have order for 3 more. Very easy kit to make.
I had trouble with the 3 piece click mechanism in 1 pen.
It did not work.
Great pen, easy to put together. Looks beautiful. Customers at gun shows love these pens.
Easy to make and assemble. I gave 2 as gifts and they were well recieved.
This is the "macho" pen of pens!! After making 6 to 7 part twist pens for a few years,I felt overwhelmed when I looked at the 14 part click pen kit-for 2 minutes. Customer interest is amazing, but not surprising.I'm going with the different types of antler for the top barrel. Assembling the kit was a bit of a puzzle the first couple of times, but now it's all fun!.I was also happily surprised to find that the 24k gold finish has a lifetime guarantee.Cool!!
Reviewer: Jason Moerbe (Waxahachie, TX)
I had tried to create some of my own bullet cartridge pens over the last year as they became more popular. I found the process to be both frustrating and unforgiving. But this kit is easy to use and looks great. In the short time since these kits have been available with PennState, I've already filled several orders - all with great degrees of appreciation from my customers.
I voted 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons - 1. The cartridge is held in place simply by compression between nib and the ink barrel coupler and has a tendency to loosen and want to spin around. This is solved by a drop of glue on the coupler, but can still be annoying at times. 2. The telescoping click mechanism and the spring up top for the click button don't always play nicely together. Be aware that the mecahnism is fairly fragile and the spring can get caught between the telescoping layers of the mechanism and this freezes the click action. I've only encountered this problem during assembly, never once assembled and in place. Just being on the lookout and taking your time with them is the trick.
This pen kit helps those of us who are somewhat challenged by the prospect of using actual bullet casing for a project. It does make you want to try the casing pens of different calibers.
Reviewer: Bob Nunley (Ramona, CA)
This kit has been a big hit. My friends and co-workers all have asked for at least one. I can't keep up with the orders. I hope there is a pencil on the horizon.
As advertised, a good looking pen and it was easy to make. If there is a negative, the pen is top heavy so if you or your customer are picky about balance, this might not be the pen for you.

My shooting and hunting buddies loved this pen!

Made a really nice pen
This has become my fastest selling pen! Hunters and military personnel jump on it immediately. It is unique and very attractive. The only problem I have encountered is in the click mechanism - make sure it is functioning properly before inserting it into the barrel. It is a relatively delicate part (in comparison to a twist mechanism) and there is no way to fix it once it is fully inserted. The only other problem with this pen is keeping it in stock! This pen is a winner!
I think it's obvious how great this kit is as it's often out of stock. The directions should inform you to turn the pen upside down and let the screw end of the click mechanism fall, being sure to keep the spring in place to screw the plunger in. Good part is, I only ruined one kit before realizing this. Now all I need is a place to order just the click mechanism. Other then this little bit of confusion on my part, these pens have been on huge demand for military personnel.
I found the pocket clip to be quite flimsy and poorly engineered. It appears to be held together by 2 small rivets through the clip ring, which in itself is far too thin to withstand the most modest of handling. I expect a 100% failure rate for this piece.
Secondly, the assembly instructions state that the Plunger coupler be pressed into the open end of the upper barrel, "Up to the threads". If this action is followed, the plunger coupler will make contact with the click mechanism and force the upper barrel away from the center coupler, creating a gap, or worse, will crush the click mechanism. This disastrous situation can be avoided by leaving a 1/32" to 1/64" space between the top of the upper barrel and the bottom of the plunger coupler threads.
Thirdly, I have experienced a 50% defect rate on the cartridge gold plating. For a $8.65 pen kit, this is unacceptable.
This is a very nice pen looks great works great.
I have purchased pen kits from all over but I never found a kit as good as this. This is a high quality product that looks great. With only the upper blank to turn, making this pen is a breeze and the quality of its components is very high. This pen is a real eye-catcher in 24kt Gold and well worth the money. Thanks Penn State for having this in your inventory.
